At first impression, most people consider Roshaun to be irritatingly arrogant and self-absorbed. And he is, of course, but it's not entirely without reason, and that's not the entirety of his personality. He was raised as a prince of his people, after all. In human terms, he's somewhere between ten and twelve years old, though it's not clear how many years he's lived in his planet's time, and he's spent his life being trained as the future king and also as a wizard-to-be, as all his family have been since long, long before anyone living can remember. The cool arrogance is only the surface of his personality, though, used as much as a shield to hide his vulnerabilities as anything. He's also possessed of deep courage and the dedication to Life of any true wizard. Given his age, as with all the youngest wizards of his universe, he will have a great deal of power at his command when he takes the Oath, and this contributes to his arrogance.
This, however, is not as enviable a position as it may seem on first hearing of it. His family are royal by virtue of their descendence from the wizards who intervened when a disaster happened to their sun, destroying all life and potential for it over half the planet. They are considered to be linked to the sun, and their responsibility is to prevent any such disaster ever happening again. The flipside of this is that their people have come to hold them responsible for the first disaster, and to fear them as much as they feel they need them, which leads to frequent assassination attempts. Our young princeling is not likely to tell anyone about this, unless he either gets to know them very, very well or he has some other reason to trust them. He'll also be on his guard from the moment he steps through the door.
Roshaun is from the Young Wizards series, and is the property of Diane Duane. He appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
